In 2017, 46% of speeding tickets were written in the “Big 6” counties Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Orange, Duval and Hillsborough. Not surprisingly, the most ticket volume comes from the most heavily populated and visited areas of the state. All of our data comes from the Annual Uniform Traffic Citation Report.
Since 2013, Broward county is responsible for writing the most speeding tickets in the state of Florida. In 2017, law enforcement agencies in Broward wrote 75,348 tickets for speeding 6% more than Miami-Dade which boasts the highest population. Miami-Dade drivers received 71,079 tickets last year.
Speeding Tickets By County (The Big 6)
Coming in third is Palm Beach County with 49,248 speeding tickets written in 2017. West Palm Beach is heavy on traffic enforcement motorcycle units and anyone in Palm Beach Gardens can tell you to watch out for frequent speed traps on PGA Boulevard.
Duval County accounts for the fourth largest portion of speeding tickets in Florida but might actually be the place you’re most likely to get a speeding ticket. It is the only county with a population less than a million yet it racks up a disproportionate amount of speeding tickets. Perhaps the difference comes from people who are travelling in or out of the state? Anyone who has taken I95 up to Georgia knows that FHP in the Jacksonville area gives out speeding tickets like candy 45,067 last year to be exact.
In 2017, 44,732 Speeding Tickets were written in Orange County Florida by the Highway Patrol, Police and Sheriffs combined. This makes it the fifth hotspot in Florida. While the Orlando area also has a high population density, it is also a big draw for tourists. Got a ticket while visiting Florida? Check out this article before you pay.
