School Zone Speed Camera Programs In FL

Florida has implemented school zone speed cameras in various counties to enhance student safety. Here’s a list of active programs and ones approved/planning/testing. This list will be periodically updated. The most recent update was 4/18/25.

Davie:

CITATIONS NOW LIVE: As of today, April 17, 2025, citations are will be issued for vehicles found to be traveling over the speed limit during school days at the following locations:

– Eastbound on SW 30th St. at Nova Southeastern University and University School
– Northbound on SW 133rd Ave at Flamingo Elementary/ Western High

Fines will be sent to the vehicle’s registered owner for $100 within 30 days after a violation.

Avoid getting a fine. Driving according to the posted speed limit as you approach a school speed zone. A Notice of Violation for a speed violation will be issued if your vehicle travels more than 10 miles per hour over the school zone speed limit during one of the following times:

a. Within 30 minutes before through 30 minutes after the start of a regularly scheduled breakfast program.
b. Within 30 minutes before through 30 minutes after the start of a regularly scheduled school session.
c. During the entirety of a regularly scheduled school session.
d. Within 30 minutes before through 30 minutes after a regularly scheduled school session ends.

Neptune Beach:

The following schools have active speed cameras issuing violations as of April 15th. Read more.

Osecola County:

March 25th 2025, Osceola County’s new School Zone Speed Safety Program has now entered Phase 2, with four additional schools and 17 more cameras coming online to help keep students safer on their way to and from school.

Following the successful implementation of 15 cameras in Phase 1, the 17 cameras in Phase 2 will begin issuing warnings for the next 30 days to drivers who are caught speeding.  

Those schools in Phase 1 have exited the Phase’s 30-day warning period and citations will now be issued for a vehicle’s registered owner who is caught speeding.  Between February 24 and March 21, more than 5,600 warnings were issued to drivers.

32 speed cameras have been placed in several directions at high-risk locations across Osceola County, with asterisks (*) indicating the schools in Phase 2:

Sanibel: 

Starting Monday, April 14, 2025, citations will be issued to drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 10 MPH in the designated school zone on Sanibel-Captiva Road.

The speed zone cameras are active during all regularly scheduled school days from 7:15 am – 2:35 pm.

From 7:15-7:45 the flashing school zone lights will be on for student drop off and the speed limit will be enforced at 20 mph.

From 7:45-2:05 during the school day, the normal speed limit will be enforced at 35 mph.

From 2:05-2:35 the flashing school zone lights will be on for student pick up and the speed limit will be enforced at 20 mph.

  • 6:40 AM – 7:10 AM: Enforcing 35 MPH speed limit (46 MPH threshold for citations)
  • 7:11 AM – 8:10 AM: Enforcing 20 MPH speed limit (31 MPH threshold for citations)
  • 8:11 AM – 2:54 PM: Enforcing 35 MPH speed limit (46 MPH threshold for citations)
  • 2:55 PM – 3:24 PM: Enforcing 20 MPH speed limit (31 MPH threshold for citations)
  • 3:25 PM – 3:40 PM: Enforcing 35 MPH speed limit (46 MPH threshold for citations)

Miami-Dade County:

Approved the installation of speed cameras across 206 school zones in unincorporated areas. The program aims to begin before the next school year, following traffic studies and educational campaigns. NBC Miami
